Headshots 101   Over the years we've received so many CV's and headshots from aspiring performers requesting advice on how to further their careers, one of the key lessons we always endeavor to give is : "Headshots 101" The first thing any aspiring performer must remember is that in most cases the first thing a casting director see's is your photograph and it is on this basis a decision is made as to whether to invite you for an audition or not, therefore it is absolutely imperative that your portfolio is up to scratch. Whats Makes a Good Headshot  The first photograph every serious performer should have is a headshot, the main purpose of a headshot is to give the casting director a clear impression of an actors looks therefore the most important feature of an actor's headshot is that it looks like the subject. Actors' headshots should be clear; theatrical headshots are usually very "neutral" looking shots of the actor clearly showing his facial features. Headshots are intended to show a person as they currently are (age, look, style, etc.) and reflect their best qualities. Therefore, if an actor's hair is recently cut or coloured, they might then need a new headshot to reflect the new image of themselves. Additionally, if an actor has a scar of the face or moles, it should be visible on the headshot and not digitally retouched out of the image. Pimples or spots are temporary and therefore these are usually retouched. The final image is normally black and white however colour is often used. When printed a standard Headshot should be 8 X 10 and when uploaded to www.nollywoodcasting.com or sent out via email the headshots should be of impeccable quality.  Key things to remember: Make-up should be as natural as possible  Hair off your face, the casting director needs to be able to see you properly  A recent photo that is updated regularly especially if your look changes significantly  Examples Of Good Headshots        Please note that a headshot is not the only photo you need but it is the most important photo for any actor in the weeks to come they'll be more advice on building up your portfolio and CV.
